Emily Kwong

Radio journalist

Emily Kwong

I am the founding reporter and now co-host for short wave, NPR’s daily science podcast. Alongside an incredibly talented team, I report engaging science narratives of timely consequence to help you see the world a little differently.

Previously, i WAS THE 2018 NPR ‘Above the Fray’ fellow, reporting a multi-part series on climate change and internal migration set in mongolia. FOR FOUR YEARS, I WAS a daily reporter for KCAW-Sitka— a community radio station IN ALASKA. i chased stories from the fireHOUSE to city hall, onto fishing grounds and up volcanoes.

I am interested in reporting that unfolds at the community level, with a focus on science, the environment/climate, and social justice. My stories are driven by empathy and context — a desire to slow down and spend time. There is a sense of people being real people, as real as you, and of their lives continuing on after the story ends.
